Christian Mushimiyimana is the FHA Deputy Coordinator in Charge of Community Engagement. Christian conservation journey began as a young boy grazing cattle with his family in Gishwati Forest, an experience that inspired his lifelong commitment to protecting the ecosystems he once depended on. Currently, Christian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Zoology and Conservation) from the University of Rwanda, and a strong background in biodiversity conservation and wildlife management. Christian is passionate about empowering local communities through landscape restoration, conservation education, and sustainable livelihoods.

Christian joined FHA, in September 2023, as a head tracker in Gishwati–Mukura National Park. After attending the Maliasili leadership development program, he was appointed Deputy Coordinator in Charge of Community Engagement. Christian lead the FHA efforts to engage local community and leaders in the conservation of the Gishwati-Mukura National Park. His work focuses on strengthening positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders and building a shared sense of ownership and responsibility for the park protection. Christian also provides critical support for the many environmental clubs in local schools and supporting cooperatives around the forest to improve their livelihoods. All this is done planning, implementating, and monitoring of all community-based conservation initiatives.
